Animal Keeper I

Part Time and Full Time Position Available. Full Time must have previous zoo experience (working with exotic animals in a captive setting).

Job Requirements:

• Proven ability to behave safely near hazardous situations.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Capable of standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, and lifting at least 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to remain flexible in schedule to cover gaps in other animal keepers’ schedules and/or participate in training intended to advance to animal keeper II status, as directed.
• Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license.

Duties May Include:

• Prepare and distribute food and medications to animals.
• Observe and evaluate each animal’s health and physical condition.
• Report abnormalities and concerns to supervisor.
• Maintain accurate animal records and reports.
• Work with maintenance technicians to ensure proper maintenance of habitats.
• Assist in treating medical conditions of animals as directed by animal curator.
• Assist in supervision of volunteers.
• Conduct and assist with enrichment and educational activities as directed.
• Record all pertinent information on the animal collection in logs.
• Assist in maintaining animal care inventory and report needs to supervisor.
• Enforce zoo rules and security measures.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
