Assistant Curator

Facility: Gulf Breeze Zoological Park

The Gulf Breeze Zoo is a 50-acre facility located just east of Pensacola, Florida. This ZAA-Accredited facility is home to a diverse collection of animals, with the collection consisting of Nile and Pygmy hippos, white rhinos, giraffe, hoofed stock species, as well as gorillas, orangutans, myriad species of smaller primates, large cats and bears, petting area, and a wide assortment of birds and reptiles.

Job Description: Assistant Curator

As the Assistant Curator, you will support the General Curator in overseeing the care, husbandry, and enrichment of the animal collection. You will work closely with animal care staff, conduct training, assist with exhibit development, and contribute to various research and educational initiatives. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a professional who is eager to grow their career in animal management, conservation, and public engagement.

The position is physically demanding and active. Although some duties are administrative, this is a hands-on working position and requires work in the field.

Applicants must have significant animal experience, including proven management experience. Must be professional, in both demeanor and appearance. This is a non-smoking workplace.

Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Biology, Animal Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a zoo, aquarium, or wildlife park, with a focus on animal care or curation.
• Strong understanding of animal behavior, welfare, and enrichment techniques.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.

Compensation

Salary range in the 50’s and commensurate with experience. We offer paid sick and vacation time, insurance options, matching 401k.
