Duties and Responsibilities (in addition to Animal Care)
· Manage the animal welfare of assigned animal string.
· Ensure that the staff follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for your assigned string.
· Mentor and train new keepers in your assigned string.
· Maintain a professional relationship, without bias, with all staff members.
· Course correct animal care deficiencies in your string through professional communication and insight forms.
· Bring diet recommendations, medical concerns and enclosure maintenance concerns to the curator.
· Be able to give and receive constructive criticism in a professional manner.
· Set the example for keepers in communication and animal care.
· Be an active participant and driving force in building and maintaining team camaraderie and morale.
· Commit to developing professional skills by setting goals and seeking feedback.
· Conduct training for new hires on animal care procedures and safety protocols and offer ongoing training and development for team members.
· Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to team members while maintaining confidentiality and upholding standards and values
Qualifications
· Must be a minimum of 18 years old
· Have a bachelor’s degree or higher or have two years of paid animal experience
· Have a minimum of two years of experience with the animals in the designated string
· A valid driver’s license
· Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends and holidays
· Strong communication and customer service skills
· Team oriented with the ability to work independently
· Have good time management skills
· Be self-motivated
· Be able to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift, push, pull 50 pounds
· Capable of working in all weather conditions
