This past year, we increased our training programs, achieved reaccreditation from the Zoological Association of America, and secured grants from the Haas Foundation to further engage students in the Clark County School District. With new events and potential expansion ahead, we’re excited for what’s next!
Position Details
The Keeper/Trainer role is a full-time, hourly position (five, eight-hour days per week). Responsibilities include:
Daily animal care – feeding, weighing, preparing diets, cleaning, and exhibit maintenance. Training and enrichment– working with lions, psittacines, ratites, tortoises, and our lovable guard dog Diesel
Guest interaction – engaging visitors, sharing stories, and fostering appreciation for wildlife
A typical day starts with essential feeding, cleaning, and facility maintenance, followed by guest engagement, where keepers share insights about our animal family and conservation efforts.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience in a zoological setting and knowledge of operant conditioning are a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to bend, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry at least 50 lbs in a desert environment with extreme heat, dust, and cold.
Interpersonal Skills: Must be outgoing, creative, confident, and self-motivated—comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong public speaking and guest engagement skills are essential.
Vaccinations: Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Compensation & Benefits $14-$16/hour, based on experience
